How to PaperTo make my lighthouse you will need the supplies listed above. First, you need to get the cardboard cylinder and paint it white. Then, use the blue electrical tape and go around it twice. Now, get the cardboard and cut it to make it look like a half of a triangle with a square at the end three times. Next, get the cardboard that you just cut and glue them together to make it look like ¾ of a house. Now, get the cylinder and glue everything together. Then, the cardboard cylinder was secured to the plywood by drilling a hole in the plywood and screwing in a nut and bolt. Next, take the black foldable cardboard and size it to fit the house, cutting it down using a saw. Then, get the shingles. Starting at the bottom of your roof line (black foldable cardboard), glue each shingle down piece by piece, one row at a time. The second row needs to be off-center from the first row. The third row needs to be off-center from the second row. Once all of the shingles are glued down, after it dries, take the wood stain and foam paint brush, and start applying stain. Then, take the black cardboard, which is now the completed roof, and glue it to the house top. Now take the wood slat design paper and spray adhesive to the back of the paper and the house. Next, take the green and blue wavy design paper and spray adhesive to the back of that paper and the plywood. Then, gently set down the paper. Do the same thing with your sandy design paper after you have cut the path in place. After the path is in place, then you can begin placing the pebbles along the walkway and the base of the house with Elmer’s glue. I also added boulders along the shoreline gluing them down with Gorilla glue. Then I sprayed the door and windows with white spray paint and drew window panes with a black Sharpie. Once that paint dried, I glued the windows and doors to the house. I then turned to finishing the grass. I cut the long strips down further into one inch strips and trimmed the tops. Then I folded the ends over, so that I could glue them to the green grass base. Now glue everything down to the base and get the sugar container, electrical tape and water bottle lid and tape those together. You the reader if you want to can make my lighthouse but, it takes awhile. Hope you enjoy.

Report
This report is about lighthouses because most people don’t know very much about them. The need for lighthouses became necessary as a way to direct ships around shorelines and at the same time prevent shipwrecks at night. Before Lighthouses were invented Legs shaking, eyes watering, the captain’s ship sunk once they crashed.

The oldest lighthouse know from 250 B.C., Lighthouse of Alexandria. It was located on the island of Pharos. Alexander The Great ordered its construction. It was finally finished during 305 B.C. by a self-proclaimed king named Ptolemy Soter. The Lighthouse of Alexandria is also called Pharos. Archaeologists believed to have reconstructed Pharos make it appear to strongly resemble the Sears Tower. Modern day lighthouses still use this basic shape.

The first lighthouse in America was built in 1556-- or so history says. When an explorer by the name of Menendez landed in St. Augustine, Florida. The next lighthouse was built in 1716 on Little Brewster Island. The oldest lighthouse still in operation is the Sandy Hook Lighthouse in New Jersey. It was built in 1764 and it still in operation today. As time has passed, the internal operation of the lighthouse has evolved very slowly. The original lighting used was the Fresnel Lens and some weighed as much as 3,500 pounds but feel like a million pounds lifting them up to the top. and were over 7 feet tall. It had to be assembled in place piece of glass at a time. The Fresnal Lens have changed over time and the size varies now depending on how far the light must be seen.

The fuels originally used to make the lighthouses work was lard and sperm whale oil. Trying to save our natural resources, this fuel as stopped. Kerosene was then used, but because it was stored in the basement and was very flammable, many lighthouses were lost to fire. Many lights now use a lantern much like a lantern you would liberate camping. One day LED lights will be used.

Lighthouses require maintenance. The Army Corp of Engineers was assigned this job for decades by Congress. Now, the United States Coast Guard is responsible for the maintenance of the lighthouses. There are hundreds of lighthouses all over the country. Most lighthouses have a keeper. This person is responsible for its upkeep and almost always live in a house attached to the lighthouse. The lighthouse keepers are the start to helping us preserve this very important piece of history.
